The Fredric Effects DuoFace is your one-stop shop for the Fuzz Face tones you've been dreaming of. Whether you covet the germanium circuit of early Hendrix, or the more agressive post-'68 silicon version, the DuoFace allows you to have both in a single pedal.

The Fuzz Face is one of the most famous fuzz pedals of all time, used by guitarists including Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, Duane Allman, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Johnson and Joe Bonamassa. It's renowned for its ability to clean up with the guitar's volume pot, making it a great effect if you like to control your sound with your fingers rather than your feet.

The DuoFace allows you to switch between the germanium and silicon circuits using the toggle switch, and each circuit features a Bias trimpot to adjust how the transistors react - from gated and splatty to smooth and sustainy - for a wide variety of useable sounds.

The Fredric Effects Verzerrer is based on the only cold war-era East German distortion pedal, originally produced in the 1960s and '70s. It veers from distortion into spitty fuzz and full on velcro mode and sounds remarkably unique.

The original featured a plastic enclosure and trim pots that had to be adjusted with a screwdriver - not exactly gig-friendly. Fredric Effects' updated version takes the original design, including using original diodes and transistors, and improves the pedal by encasing it in a sturdy folded metal mini-wedge enclosure and adding circuit-board mounted dip-switches for additional tweakability.

The Bias control allows you to produce gated, dying-battery tones when turned down, or increase sustain as it is turned up.

The internal dip switches are:

  • NR1/NR2: Noise reduction
  • Limit Res: The original's volume-limiting resistor
  • Boost Off: Boost is on by default in order to engage the volume boost
  • Boost On x2: These must be on to engage the volume boost

This pedal can produce really gritty sounds that stand out in the mix. The Tone control is very responsive and can bring your sound forward or supress buzzy high end depending on how you set it.

If you love velcro, spitty fuzz sounds then you can't go wrong with this awesome piece of nostalgia!

The Bad Penny FX Fuzz Controller V2 is a high gain silicon fuzz with power filtering and independent boost circuits, each of which can be adjusted via internal trim-pots.

It's a brilliant fuzz, utilising vintage Philips, K40Y-9 Russian military-grade, and Sprague Vitamin Q paper-in-oil capacitors, all connected with vintage-style cloth wiring and housed in a beautiful English ash and aluminium chassis.

Starve

Use the Starve switch to limit the power running into the Fuzz Controller, emulating a dying 9V battery for seriously organic, squashy tones.

Diode

The Diode switch allows you to switch between LED clipping and 1N4148 silicon diode clipping. When turned off, there's less gain but more volume, enabling an overdrive-type response.

Bass Cut

The Bass Cut switch shelves some of the lower frequencies while simultaneously boosting the signal for an aggressive sound.

Treble Cut

The Treble Cut switch compresses the high end and lops off the highest frequencies.

The Zander Circuitry Sono is one for all you bassists out there: a bass fuzz and preamp in a single small package. 

The preamp side of the pedal takes you from clean to medium-gain, and importantly the Blend control allows you to add back in some of your original signal for clarity and spank. 

Add fuzz to a good core bass tone and you have the recipe for some awesome sounds. Use the fuzz side of the Sono to dial in a tone that suits, and use the Blend control to add back in some of your original signal to ensure nothing gets lost in action. The Rip control enables you to dial in compression and some of that delicious gated/ velcro mayhem. Seriously, let it rip!

From it’s humble beginnings as a modified Fuzz Factory' circuit to its latest iteration, Zander Circuitry's first pedal model has come a long way.

These days the SiClone Silicon Chaos Initiator is a super-versatile 8-knob fuzz monstrosity, capable of taking you from vintage-style fuzz tones right through to complete sonic annihilation!

There is plenty of scope to push your imagination with this pedal - use the Shunt control to tame feedback and create stuttering gated effects. Squash compresses the attack, creating a synth-like character at higher settings. Starve restricts the voltage to the circuit, creating beautiful dying-battery sounds. Bright allows you to dial in just the right amount of high frequency, while Body enables you to emphasise or cut the low end. Punch controls the mid-range frequencies.

The Tone footswitch allows you to bypass the Bright and Punch settings to give a fat, mid-rich sound with a volume boost, although the output can be reduced by means of an internal trim pot if required.

Since the 1960s, fuzz has gone hand-in-hand with octave effects, and it's been popular ever since. The Foxxton Woods spans eras with its tones, from classic '60s to filthy '90s and more. 

The Body Control adjusts the low-end frequencies, allowing you to dial in muscular, deep tones or a tighter, more focused sound for cutting through a mix - or somewhere in between. 

The Shift control adjusts the mid-range frequencies, enabling you go from mid-scooped to mid-boosted tones.

Fredric Effects' Super Unpleasant Companion Nouveau is a celebration of 2 classic fuzz circuits designed by Japanese company Shin-Ei in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Shin-Ei licensed its designs out to several companies, and perhaps the most famous version of its FY-6 is the Univox Superfuzz, as used by Pete Townshend on the Who's Live At Leeds masterpiece.

This pedal packs the Shin-Ei Companion FY-2 and Shin-Ei Superfuzz FY-6 circuits into a single compact mini-wedge pedal enclosure. You can switch between the circuits with a handy toggle switch.

The 'Nouveau' moniker refers to a recent redesign, packaging the fuzz into a smaller enclosure and moving the controls to the top surface.

The Companion FY-2 is a nasty, raspy chainsaw of a fuzz. It's not super-musical but has plenty of impact, and can be heard in all its glory on The Jesus And Mary Chain's Psychocandy (incidentally, The Jesus And Mary Chain now use Shin-Ei fuzzes modded by Fredric Effects!). Tone 1 setting is mid-dominant with a dense textural edge. Tone 2 mode is like putting a blanket over your cab, but brings a more focused bottom end and a grinding edge to the mid and high notes.

The Superfuzz FY-6 is a richer style of fuzz but can get really bright thanks to the Expander control (this doesn't work in FY-2 mode). The FY-6 provides a 'wall of sound'. Tone 1 mode is what founder Tim Webster describes as 'garagey' and is slightly muddy, while the second tone mode is more expansive in scope but with a more scooped mid-range.

The Bad Penny FX Wireless is a germanium fuzz with flexible switching to ensure you always get the best tones.

Crank everything to achieve high gain, ripping fuzz tones, or disengage the Gate and Bass switches, pull down the Fuzz knob to minimum and your tone will be sweet and mellow. Being a vintage germanium circuit, it is highly responsive to your guitar volume.

Gate

The gate switch controls how much signal is passed to the third transistor. By default it passes the full signal for plenty of gain, but switching it on reduces the signal and therefore gain, for a cleaner fuzz tone.

There is an internal trim pot that allows you to adjust how much signal is passed when Gate is engaged, 

Bass

The bass switch removes the lowest frequencies for a clearer, brighter sound.

The Bad Penny FX Widow is a dual footswitch design offering stackable overdrive and fuzz channels. 

The overdrive circuit is based on Bad Penny FX's Trainscreamer overdrive pedal, taking you from mild boost to singing sustain. Bad Penny FX have designed this circuit to preserve and enhance the low-end frequencies in your signal, giving you warmth and thickness when you need it.

The fuzz circuit is designed to be stacked after the overdrive circuit in series. The drive it receives from the overdrive gives it plenty of attack. Use the Bite control to starve the circuit and create stuttery, breaking up sounds, and use the Evil control to cut bass from your tone (this control can be fine-tuned via an internal trim-pot).

The ability to stack a low-gain overdrive circuit into a fuzz circuit gives this pedal tons of versatility - use the overdrive on its own or add the fuzz to bring the gain!

Founder Stuart is a stickler for attention to detail, and he has gone all out with the components for this pedal. After feedback from early versions, he has included a small input transformer to simulate the inductance and resistance from a guitar pickup to allow it to work perfectly anywhere in a signal chain - particularly after buffered pedals.

Specially selected transistors, 1% metal film resistors and the some of the best capacitors on the market all combine to make this an incredible sounding silicon fuzz. It has tons of gain on tap and good bass response, so use that dial with care!

With the toggle switch in the 'Up' state, the pedal runs as the original Raise The Dead - a silicon transistor fuzz that can get pretty aggressive. But on this BGP Limited Edition, switch the toggle to the 'Down' position and hand-selected germanium transistors come into play, making the sound softer, warmer and harmonically rich, providing a spongier feel for the player and a useful alternative tone to the silicon of the base model.

The Tate FX Raise The Dead BGP Limited Edition is exclusive to Boost Guitar Pedals, with just a handful of units built in the initial run: you won't find these anywhere else!

Stompnorth's Fishmoth Vintage Fuzztoner is based on the classic Fuzz Face circuit made famous by Jimi Hendrix.

Founder Ariel describes the Red Noise Stone Blender as "a complete fuzz engine" for your pedalboard.

Although it's based on the 1990s Sola Sound Tone Bender circuit, its 4-way Diode Switch control lets you pick from four different clipping options for more versatility:

1N60 (Green) - Purry, germanium overdrive-like fuzz, offering volume boost and added crunch

1N4148 (Red) - Sizzling up top while punching you in the gut, this is the 1990’s Sola Sound Tone Bender sound - a classic fuzz tone

Yellow LED (Yellow) - A loud and aggressive character

Blue LED (Blue) - Extremely distorted and high gain in character, this is full-blown and in your face. And yes, it goes to 11...

The Red Noise Stone Blender is built around NOS Toshiba 2SC2240 transistors, with sturdy Alpha pots and that addictive NOS germanium diode.

The De-Clip control alters the tonal balance and presence of the mids, enabling you to increase pick attack and bring your instrument forward in the mix, whether you are using a guitar or bass (Ariel is a bassist and this pedal is more than capable of some 4-string thunder!) This helps to alleviate mid-scoop issues which can affect other fuzzes, especially those based on the Big Muff, and enables you to really push the mids.

The Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe is the company's flagship guitar pedal. It takes the famed silicon Tone Bender MKII circuit and builds on it with some home and stage-friendly modifications.

The Fat control is a variable low frequency input control, allowing you to optimise the pedal for humbuckers or single coils. by adjusting its response and feel, from girthy to snappy.

Tonebender-type circuits vary depending on the bias of the 3rd transistor. Adjust the Bias control for gritty, gated tones at one end of the dial, sustaining lead tones in the middle, and sweet lower-gain tones at the other end of the rotation. Bias affects tone and gain.

Some Tone Bender MKII pedals can get lost in a mix, but the inclusion of a Tone control ensures that you'll never get swamped by the rhythm section again.

The Basic Audio Spooky Tooth is one of John Lyon's best known pedals. A mash up of Orpheum, Fuzzrite and Super Fuzz circuit types, with some Big Muff raunch thrown in for good measure, he describes it as "Neil Young in a box".

It's an incredibly versatile fuzz with an aggressive character thanks to the silicon transistors. The Spooky Tooth provides the sag and bloom of an amp on the edge, with the lightly scooped mids accentuating the thick bottom end and zingy highs. It's really reactive to picking strength, compressing nicely under heavier picking or chords.

You can dial your sound in with the Texture control, which blends between one and two gain stages for lower to high-gain tones, and gives an octave-up tonality near the centre position. 

A surprisingly versatile pedal that can carry out more than just fuzz duties.
